The Siyuan Ocean Conference aims to convene experts and scholars in marine science and technology, fostering a platform for academic exchange and scientific collaboration. “Siyuan” means “Think of the Origin” in Chinese and is named after the motto of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). The conference is hosted annually by School of Oceanography (SOO) at SJTU. Since 2019, the Siyuan Ocean Conference has been successfully held for seven editions, covering themes such as “Ocean Environment and Climate Interaction”, “Ocean-Atmosphere Interactions Between Mid and High Latitudes and Their Climate Effects”, “Extremes in the Ocean”, “Polar and Deep Oceans: Variability and Stability”, “Siyuan: Four Poles”, “Siyuan: Tracing the Ocean” and “Polar Ice-Covered Oceans and Ecosystem Dynamics”, addressing cutting-edge scientific and technological challenges.
The 8th Siyuan Ocean Conference will take place on May 13–15, 2026, at the School of Oceanography, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. We cordially invite leading experts and outstanding early-career researchers to join us in exploring the frontiers of science and technology.
Siyuan Ocean Conference 2026 will focus on “Technology Empowers Extreme Marine Science Research”, including three sessions:
1. New Platforms and Technologies for Ocean Science: Focusing on novel research platforms and cutting-edge analytical methodologies and technologies for ocean observation, exploration, and modeling, with an emphasis on technological innovation, equipment advancement, and AI-empowered marine research.
2.Polar and Ocean Multi-Sphere Interactions: Focusing on frontier research in polar and deep ocean, and addressing material cycles, energy exchanges, and dynamic coupling within the ocean system and among the ocean, atmosphere, land, and cryosphere, aiming to uncover multi-element linkage mechanisms, synergistic variation patterns and climatic feedbacks.
3.Coupled Evolution of Earth's Environment and Life: Based on long-term geological history, this session examines the two-way feedback and co-evolutionary relationships among Earth's environmental changes, climate variabilities, and the origin, evolution, adaptation, and prosperity of life in the ocean and beyond.
